Board Retreat Recap – Site Selection
On November 19th, Sarah White, Principal + VP Site Selection from Global Location Strategies presented an EDB Stakeholders Workshop to the EDB Board of Directors on Site Selection. The presentation included an overview of the site selection process, product development, and a look into the Project Evergreen formula. The formula reminds GLS that no site is perfect and any weaknesses could possibly be mitigated while remembering the client’s minimum criteria and timeline.
Each board member was given a scenario and information on four sites as well as a worksheet to take notes on each of the four potential properties. The board members then tackled the opportunity in front of them: recommend the best site for this client with a goal of meeting all their criteria or being able to show how to mitigate the criteria it didn’t meet.
According to White, there are five P’s of Economic Development: Product, Promotion, Pricing, People and Place. For all of us living and working in Pierce County, remembering these five P’s can help us ensure “Economic Development Happens Here.”
