Manufacturing Day is Oct. 7

Recognizing the major role of manufacturing and the people and companies that stand behind goods and services made in the South Sound, Mayor Victoria Woodards proclaimed October 7 Manufacturing Day in the City of Tacoma.

The proclamation was announced during the October 4 Tacoma City Council meeting. Business leaders in attendance (pictured above from left) included: Joel Baxter, Regional Manager of Government Relations, WestRock; Assaad Alseman, Tacoma General Manager, WestRock; Mitch Johnson, President/CEO, General Plastics; and Brandon Sizemore, Managing Partner, Founder’s Choice. Scott Reader, Managing Director for Rainier Woodworking, attended the meeting via Zoom.

Each year, Manufacturing Day is celebrated across the U.S. on the first Friday in October. The day (and sometimes events throughout the month of October) is designed to spotlight what modern manufacturing looks like and inspire the next generation of skilled workers.
