200,000 square feet of warehouse space. 12.7 acres. A $17 million investment. Those are the impressive figures that define Japan-based Mitsui-Soko’s aerospace logistics facility in Fredericksburg, WA, which occupies a prime position near Tacoma-Pierce County’s air and sea transport hubs.
In 2017, Mitsui-Soko (U.S.A.) Inc., a subsidiary of Japan’s Mitsui-Soko Group, celebrated the grand opening of its Frederickson, WA facility. The company’s first Pacific Northwest location merited an international gathering: company leaders flew in from Japan to attend the opening with local officials.
What convinced Mitsui-Soko to look all the way across the Pacific Ocean and invest $17 million into Tacoma-Pierce County? For starters, the region is a major hub for both logistics operations and aerospace companies – the winning combination for Mitsui-Soko’s plans to supply aviation parts and materials to leading U.S. manufacturers. Another major factor for Mitsui-Soko was the expert support provided by the EDB and Pierce County to help the company find the best site and ensure its world-class facility was completed on time and on budget.
Mitsui-Soko also chose Fredericksburg, WA because the site is strategically located to support just-in-time distribution services. The facility is just 25 minutes from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, 10 minutes from the Port of Tacoma and 40 minutes from Port of Seattle. These nearby transport hubs enhance Mitsui-Soko’s highly refined logistics network that stretches across Asia, North America and the world.
Since landing in Tacoma-Pierce County, Mitsui-Soko has made a valuable addition to the local aerospace supply chain and employs dozens of workers. The 200,000-foot-facility is specifically engineered to meet the unique and exacting requirements of high-demand cargo, featuring both refrigerated and ambient temperature warehouse space spread across 12.7 acres.
All in all, Mitsui-Soko’s facility in Tacoma-Pierce County is the perfect package, enabling the company to offer clients maximum flexibility and the secure storage of products in a precisely controlled environment.
